DeJaVu

Once upon a time…nah, yesterday actually, my friend asked me about dejavu phenomena.

Dejavu is a phenomenon when we experience an event and suddenly we feel that we’ve ever experienced it though factually we’ve never experienced it before (confused? No wonder. Dejavu is categorized as a strange and confusing phenomenon).

My friend, a church youth leader as he is, asked me the spiritual meaning of dejavu. I’m certainly not a spiritual genius, nor a religious cleric, so I can only offer a simple alternative explanation to him.

Dejavu isn’t considered re-experiencing event, but it is more likely re-experiencing dream.
Yes, it is a dream, a dream that we didn’t remember when we wake up, a dream that is stored in our unconscious mind.

When we experience a particular event, voila, the dream suddenly emerges to our conscious mind. When the dream emerges, our mind may not remember that it was a dream, instead confuse it as a familiar event in the past.
We may think that we’ve experienced this event before, while actually we’ve just dreamt it before.
That’s an alternative explanation of the dejavu phenomena.

What’s the impact to our spirituality (if there’s any)?
Dejavu is another evidence of God’s omniscience.

God, who knows what we’re going to experience in the future, planted a fraction of His knowledge to us in the form of dream and He managed to keep that dream veiled.
When we encounter a particular event, that dream, which was God’s knowledge of future, emerges.
The emergence of the dream is somewhat God’s implied message to us that He knew ahead of what we’re going to encounter long before we actually face it.

This is a comforting message to those who have wariness about the future, who feel uncertain that God cares for them in daily basis, who aren’t sure of walking in the right path.
It is God’s solemn message that He’s still watching us and in charge of our lives.

Some of prominent scientific readers who happen to stumble across this article (hopefully) may think: This is outrageous, this is pseudo-science!
Oh yes, this is indeed a pseudo-science, but since you cannot verify it empirically, then I still have the right to impose my explanation.
